“Consciousness is a hard problem for science” and it is a major focus of study in neurology, psychology, neuroscience, and even quantum physics to know the nature and functioning of Consciousness.

The term Hard Problem of Consciousness coined by philosopher David Chalmers, refers to the challenge of explaining why and how physical processes in the brain give rise to subjective experiences. 

Quantum theories attempt to address this problem by proposing that consciousness is not merely a product of classical neural interactions but involves deeper quantum processes.

Quantum Mechanics and Consciousness theory suggests that consciousness arises from quantum processes within the brain, particularly in structures like microtubules. This idea is supported by recent research indicating that anesthetics affect consciousness through interactions with microtubules, suggesting a quantum basis for how consciousness operates. 

Despite its intriguing possibilities, quantum consciousness theory faces significant skepticism. Critics argue that there is no empirical evidence supporting the idea that quantum effects play a role in consciousness. Some scientist characterize it as a “myth” lacking scientific basis. Chalmers himself remains skeptical about the ability of quantum mechanics to resolve the hard problem, suggesting that both quantum and classical theories face similar challenges in explaining consciousness.

There are currently no major companies publicly focused exclusively on the concept of Quantum Consciousness as a dedicated field. Most leading companies in the quantum sector are primarily engaged in quantum computing hardware, software, and research into quantum algorithms and applications rather than directly exploring quantum consciousness.

Why QuantAum?

Quantum Consciousness is supposed to be a theoretical, interdisciplinary field at the intersection of quantum physics and consciousness studies. While some academic and niche private groups explore this concept, large tech companies do not list quantum consciousness as a business focus. AI struggles to learn sequentially without forgetting prior knowledge. When fine-tuned on new tasks, models overwrite old weights—a phenomenon called catastrophic forgetting.

AI needs a large infrastructure, data center, multiple GPU based hardware that needs high power, maintenance and becomes environmentally and financially unsustainable.
